Successful Meetings: Internationale Meetings effektiv gestalten (Teil 2)
Dear Reader,
Be pro-active and think outside the box the next time you participate in an international meeting. This may mean leaving the role of the traditional participant to build energy and commitment. In particular:
Take responsibility
Don’t let the leader lead. This may sound strange at first but it could be that the leader’s English is poor and support is needed. It could also be that the leader is not very good or that there is a hidden agenda. It is important for you to intervene and shape the meeting according to your agenda.
Clarify
Don’t accept everything that is said. Invest in clarifying what is said even if you 99.9% certain of what is being discussed. There is a risk of agreeing too early and you may be missing important aspects of a discussion or weaknesses in an argument.
Give positive feedback
Widen your role whenever necessary to bring focus and clarity. This will also build energy and commitment.
In the end, taking an active role will enrich your communication style and help you to become truly effective in international meetings.
Kind regards,
Nelly Thomas
